Workshop Services

The lower level of our premises is dedicated to a full-service jewellery and watch workshop, and we pride ourselves on the quality of our workshop services.
We use the latest technology such as laser welding, CAD design, 3D scanning and 3D printing. We are constantly investing in new technology to ensure we offer the best service to our customers.
Whether you require something simple such as ring cleaning or a new watch strap, or something more complex such as a replacement watch dial for your vintage Rolex - we'll carry this out with the expert care and attention we're known for.
Customers often ask us for a second opinion because other jewellers were unable (or unwilling) to repair their item. Or they've been quoted a disproportionate price for a simple repair, usually from one of the 'big name' jewellery stores.
We keep our prices reasonable and always offer an honest appraisal. We'll let you know if we believe your item is beyond repair, or if the repair just wouldn't be cost-effective.
Pop in for a chat about your requirements and we'll give you a no-obligation estimate. We like to be transparent about our workshop charges, so you can view example prices under each of the services listed below.

GENERAL FAQs
While we are happy to offer general advice and pricing via telephone, email or messaging services, we will need to inspect your item before it can be booked in for any of our workshop services. Please visit us during our normal opening hours (currently 10am to 5pm Tuesday to Saturday).
If you'd like to pre-book a date for same-day workshop services, please get in touch with your preferred date and a description of the work required (including photos of your item if possible):

Estimates for all in-house services are provided free of charge and without obligation*. While we welcome enquiries by email and social media, we will need to inspect the item in person before an accurate estimate can be given. Examples of our typical charges are given further down this page.
*Charges will apply if a third-party is providing the estimate (see below)
If the job is simple and we have time to inspect your item at the time of booking, we will provide an estimate for the job verbally. This will be noted on the booking along with your acceptance of it. In all other cases, your job will be entered into our workshop queue for an estimate, which will be sent by SMS or email.
As our workshop is very busy and we receive dozens of estimate requests each week, our usual turnaround for estimates is 2 - 3 weeks. This may be extended during unusually busy periods or if we need to source parts/materials to calculate the estimate. If you need your estimate urgently, please let us know at the time of booking.
Your job cannot proceed until you have accepted the estimate, so please reply to our SMS or email promptly to avoid delays. We do not accept verbal acceptance of written estimates.
All estimate acceptances are final and the job cannot be cancelled once you have asked us to proceed.
Please note that estimates based on the initial inspection may be subject to change once a more thorough inspection is undertaken in the workshop, if additional faults develop during the work, or if we need to add postage costs for parts and materials as described above. We will contact you if the cost changes significantly from the estimate, but minor increases will not be notified to avoid delays. If you want to be notified of all cost changes, please tell us at the time of booking.
Please Note - Third Party Services (Jewellery):
Wherever possible, we will complete the estimate in-house to avoid sending your item away to a third party. However, sometimes this is unavoidable if specialist services are required, for example gemstone matching, restringing or gold-plating.
If you ask us to obtain an estimate and it involves posting your jewellery away to a third-party supplier, return postage charges will apply. These will be payable even if you choose not proceed with the work. As all items are sent by insured Royal Mail Special Delivery, this will be at least £10 each way (£20 return) including VAT. If your jewellery is particularly valuable or the supplier applies a handling/packaging charge in addition to the postage, the final postage charge may be higher. Please bear in mind that while your jewellery will be insured for it's replacement value while in transit, there is always a risk of loss when sending anything by Royal Mail, and this is outside of our control. If your jewellery holds special sentimental value or is an irreplaceable design, you should consider whether you are happy to accept this risk before asking us to post it away on your behalf.
Although we don't charge for our time when arranging estimates, some suppliers charge an admin fee to cover their own time. This is payable even if you decline their estimate and choose not to proceed. Such charges are outside of our control. By asking us to send the item away on your behalf, you agree to reimburse us for all charges in full.
By booking in your jewellery and asking us to arrange third-party services on your behalf, you are accepting the above terms.
Please Note - Third-Party Services (Watches):
Many watch manufacturers refuse to provide parts to independent repairers and insist that watches are sent to their own 'approved' service centres for repairs and servicing. You can arrange this yourself by contacting the manufacturer and asking for the details of their UK service centre for out-of-warranty repairs. Arranging this direct will be the most cost effective option for you. However, we do have accounts with all UK service centres and are happy to deal with them on your behalf. This will incur additional charges, and the following terms will apply:
Return postage charges will apply, even if you decline the estimate and choose not proceed with the work. As all items are sent by insured Royal Mail Special Delivery, this will be at least £10 each way (£20 return) including VAT. If your watch is particularly valuable or the service centre applies a handling/packaging charge in addition to the postage, the final postage charge may be higher. Please bear in mind that while your watch will be insured for it's replacement value while in transit, there is always a risk of loss when sending anything by Royal Mail, and this is outside of our control. If your watch holds special sentimental value or is an irreplaceable model, you should consider whether you are happy to accept this risk before asking us to post it away on your behalf.
The service centre will inspect your watch and provide an estimate for the work. Watch repair estimates are very time-consuming, as they involve dismantling the movement to diagnose the fault. Due to this, some service centres charge a fee for providing the estimate. This is usually between £15 and £30, and is payable even if you decline their estimate and choose not to proceed with the work. Such charges are outside of our control. By asking us to send watch away on your behalf, you agree to reimburse us for all charges in full.
Third-party charges and timescales are outside of our control. Service centres are notoriously slow, with estimates often taking up to six weeks and the repair/service itself taking in excess of twelve weeks.
By booking in your watch and asking us to deal with the service centre on your behalf, you are accepting these terms.
We have a reputation for providing excellent service at a reasonable price, which means our workshop is always extremely busy. We receive dozens of new bookings each week.
Example timescales for our most common services are shown in the information sections further down this page.
Any timescales quoted are intended as an approximate guide based on our average turnaround. The quoted timescales are not guaranteed. Your job could take longer to complete, especially if it is complex and/or requires us to source parts or gemstones.
If you require completion by a specific date, this must be agreed by us at the time of booking, so we can check if this will be possible. Additional charge may apply if express services are required in order to meet this date.
We have limited availability for our express service, which will move your job to the front of the queue for a 30% surcharge. If you would like to take advantage of this, please enquire at the time of booking. See 'Do you offer an express service?' for more details.
We understand that some jobs just can’t wait – perhaps you’re getting married this weekend and have just realised your wedding ring doesn't fit, or you're going on holiday in a few hours and your watch strap has just snapped? Contact us and we’ll do our best to help!
Please note - availability of parts:
The timescales quoted assume that all required parts and materials to complete the job are in stock or available for immediate dispatch from our suppliers. If this is not the case, your job may take longer than the quoted timescales, especially during postal strikes and busy periods.
Where the parts/materials are from one of our main suppliers, we tend to order these in batches each week along with the items required to complete other jobs in the queue. This is to keep our charges as low as possible and avoid us having to add delivery costs to your individual booking, as these can be disproportionate for lower-cost jobs.
For example we charge £10 to replace a pair of spring bars in a watch bracelet. As spring bars vary in size, it is not possible to keep all options in stock. If we need to order the size required, they will be added to one of our usual weekly orders to avoid adding a £10 postage charge to your booking (doubling the cost of your repair). If we have no other parts to order from that particular supplier at the time, the order will not be placed until the following week and your job may be delayed.
If you ask us to speed up your job, or if you have opted for our express service, we are happy to place an individual order for your parts/materials on next-day delivery, but the cost of this will be added to your booking.
We have a reputation for providing excellent service at a reasonable price, which means our workshop is always extremely busy. We receive dozens of workshop bookings in a single week, and timescales will vary according to our workload and availability of parts and materials.
We do have limited availability for our express service which means your job will be moved to the front of the queue. This incurs a 30% surcharge and can be arranged at the time of booking. Express timescales will vary depending on the nature of the work.

Same day services:
It is possible to pre-book a same day service for work such as cleaning, rhodium plating and engraving, along with simple resizing and repairs. The standard 30% express surcharge applies.
This service is strictly pre-booking only and is not available for walk-ins 'on the day'. Items must be brought in at opening time (10am) to guarantee completion by closing time (5pm). If items are brought in late, same-day completion is not guaranteed.
Please contact us for availability.
To make things simple and fair for all customers, we charge a set price for our most common services and advertise them freely.
These charges have been calculated carefully, based on the time it takes to physically complete the job, the cost of the materials/postage required, and the 'hidden' costs of running a workshop (chemicals, equipment, electricity, water, insurance etc). Our charges also include 20% VAT.
As with any business, our charges will occasionally increase to reflect rising costs. Existing estimates will always be honoured.
Customers often tell us that we're cheaper than our competitors, but this isn't deliberate. We just try to keep our charges reasonable for the work we do.
That being said, our charges do reflect that our high-quality service is made possible by decades of expertise and a workshop full of expensive equipment. We only use the highest quality materials and are fully insured. We are also VAT registered, which accounts for 20% of our costs.
If you've been quoted a lower price to do the same job, it will likely be carried out to a lower standard as a result. We are often asked to rectify 'cheap' repairs which have led to shoddy ring settings, lost diamonds and broken watches. The cost of this is often more than we quoted for the original repair.
Our motto is "good repairs aren't cheap and cheap repairs aren't good!"
For this reason, we don't price-match workshop services.
As we are confident in the quality of our workshop services, most parts and workmanship are guaranteed for 12 months. For more details, please refer to the Jewellery and Watch sections below.
Yes, we offer several types of engraving:
Machine engraving on metal
Machine engraving on glass
Traditional hand engraving
Traditional seal engraving
Costs:
Machine engraving on metal is charged £1 per letter with a £20 minimum charge. Images/logos are charged extra depending on size.
Machine engraving on glass is charged £2 per letter with a £40 minimum charge. Images/logos are charged extra depending on size.
Traditional hand engraving starts at £40. Please ask for a quote.
Traditional seal engraving starts at £400. Please ask for a quote.
Timescales:
Our current timescale for machine engraving is approximately three weeks. An express service is available for a 30% surcharge.
Timescales for hand and seal engraving will vary. There is only one professional hand-engraver left in Scotland, and he is semi-retired. Therefore his current workload and complexity of the job will dictate the timescale. Express services are occasionally available for an extra charge.
Engraving instructions:
Engraving instructions must be given in writing, preferably by email to sales@loganthejewellers.co.uk
Please ensure you have checked for date errors and spelling mistakes, as the text will be engraved exactly as supplied. Amendments are not possible once the item is engraved.
We cannot engrave copyrighted images or logos unless you own the rights to distribute them.
Please note:
We do not engrave bottles of alcohol, perfume or other liquids due to the risk of shattering in the machine.
Engraving is not suitable for all items and we cannot guarantee the suitability of items we have not supplied ourselves. This is especially true of glass items that can have hidden flaws. Engraving of items purchased elsewhere is therefore done at your own risk. We are unable to accept responsibility for any damage caused to items that are found to be unsuitable for engraving.
Sorry, we no longer offer clock repairs. Unfortunately, there are very few repairers left in Scotland! We recommend contacting:

As we are confident in the quality of our workshop services, parts and workmanship are guaranteed for 12 months. Please note: if the item is taken to another repairer during this period (including for cleaning), this will void the guarantee.
Occasionally we'll agree to do a non-guaranteed repair. For example if the item is hollow or fragile, and we can't guarantee the repair will last. If you agree to proceed on this basis, no guarantee applies.
Rhodium/gold plating is excluded from the 12 month guarantee, as the plating will naturally wear away over time. The amount of time this takes depends on the type of item, how often it is worn and the treatment it is subjected to. For this reason, we can't predict how long plating will last on a specific item (for example a wedding ring worn by a mechanic would wear much faster than a pair of earrings kept for special occasions). But if you believe the plating has failed prematurely, please bring the item in for inspection.
The guarantee does not cover faults caused by accidental damage, mistreatment or failure to care for the item appropriately once it has been returned to you. Jewellery is fragile by nature, and repairing an item does not make invincible to future damage. If a repair fails due to an issue with workmanship or materials, we will happily cover it under our guarantee. Otherwise, further repairs will be chargeable. This is particularly important to note for delicate items such as fine chains, charm attachments, hinges and claws; all of which are very easily damaged without due care. For example if you accidentally snap your necklace and ask us to repair it, you'll be charged for a new repair if you accidentally snap it again a week later (sorry!).
We recommend you have always have insurance in place to cover accidental damage, loss and theft of your jewellery. Please ask for details of our recommended insurer, TH March.
Gemstone Failure:
Resetting or repolishing existing gemstones is not without risk. While we will visually inspect each stone to determine whether it is suitable for reuse, we cannot guarantee the integrity of gemstones we have not supplied. Gemstones can often have hidden faults and weaknesses not visible to the eye, especially if they are being reused from existing jewellery. When subjected to repolishing or the heat and pressure of the setting process, these hidden faults can cause a stone to crack, chip or shatter (even diamonds). This is due to the inherently fragile nature of gemstones and is outside of our control.
Stone failure is extremely rare - we have only experienced this a handful of times in several decades of jewellery design. But unfortunately it can happen, even with brand-new stones. Gemstones supplied by us are fully guaranteed and will be replaced without charge if they fail, but customer-supplied gemstones are used at your own risk, and replacement stones will be chargeable. However, we will supply a replacement at trade price with no additional charges added.

Our in-house workshop offers a professional jewellery resizing service, with ring resizing starting at £75.
You'll find example prices below, but please visit us to receive a quote for your specific item. Some designs have limited resizing options. For example full eternity rings cannot be resized.
Timescale:
Our current estimated timescale is 3 - 4 weeks. This is intended as an approximate guide based on our average turnaround. and is not guaranteed. Your job could take longer to complete.
We have limited availability for our express service which offers completion within 3 - 4 working days for simple resizing. This incurs a 30% surcharge.
If you require completion by a specific date, this must be agreed by us at the time of booking, so we can check if this will be possible. Additional charges may apply if express services are required in order to meet this date.
Cost:
Ring resizing starts at £75 per ring, which includes our standard £25 charge for cleaning and repolishing.
This is our standard charge for adjustments on most ring styles, including plain wedding bands. It covers up to two sizes up or down, assuming your ring is a standard design and the band is no wider than 4mm.
£75 does not include rhodium plating. If plating is required, there is an additional charge of £25.
The exact cost will depend on the complexity of the ring design and the amount of sizes it needs to be taken up/down. For example the cost will be higher if it is a complex diamond-set band, wider than 4mm, or requires more than two sizes of adjustment. Please ask for an estimate.
Example costs:
To make a yellow gold engagement ring one size smaller would cost £75. This assumes the ring has a plain band and does not require adjustment to the setting. To make the ring one size larger, the cost would also be £75.
To make a white gold wedding band two sizes smaller would cost £100. This is our standard charge of £75, plus £25 for rhodium plating. To make the ring two sizes larger, the cost would also be £100.
Our in-house workshop offer a professional jewellery cleaning and rhodium plating service. Our prices are below. Earrings are classed as one item, as is a pendant on a chain.
Professional jewellery cleaning: £15 per item
Professional cleaning plus polishing: £25 per item
Cleaning, polishing plus rhodium plating: £50 per item
Timescale
Our current timescale is 3 - 4 working days. Timescales may be extended during busy periods, for multi-item jobs or complex items.
We have limited availability for our express service which offers same or next day completion (depending on the time booked in and our current workload). This incurs a 30% surcharge. For example to clean, polish and rhodium plate one ring on our express service would be £65.
The timescales quoted are intended as an approximate guide based on our average turnaround and are not guaranteed. Your job could take longer to complete.
If you require completion by a specific date, this must be agreed by us at the time of booking, so we can check if this will be possible. Additional charges may apply if express services are required in order to meet this date.
Rhodium Plating
White gold and platinum is often plated with rhodium to give a crisp 'chrome' finish. Many silver items are also rhodium plated. This rhodium plating will naturally wear away over time. The amount of time this takes depends on the quality of the plating, the type of jewellery, how often it is worn and the treatment it is subjected to.
Caution: some jewellers may offer to 'quick dip' an item without stripping off the existing plating, or use cheaper 'hybrid' plating solutions. While this might initially improve the item's appearance, it will quickly wear. We only use the highest quality electroplating rhodium solutions (2g/100ml) and strip the item back to base metal before applying the new plating.
Our in-house workshop offers a professional jewellery soldering and laser welding service. You'll find example prices below, but please visit us to request a quote for your specific job.
Scroll down for timescales.
Charm attachment:
Non-solder attachment of a single charm. This service is offered free of charge for charms purchased from us.
Cost: £10 per charm
Cleaning and polishing of your entire bracelet can be added for a discounted price of £20 (usually £25).
For example: the total cost to attach one charm and clean and polish the entire bracelet would be £30. Each additional charm would be charged at £10.
Soldering:
Charm attachment and soldering of bracelets and chains. For example chain and bracelet shortening, simple link repairs and attachment of new trigger catches.
This service is offered free of charge for 9ct and 18ct gold charms, chains and bracelets purchased from us. It is included in the cost quoted for replacement trigger catches.
The cost includes cleaning and polishing of the item (usually £25). We are unable to solder items without cleaning and polishing afterwards, as the solder torch burns the metal. Rhodium plating is not included, but this is available for an additional £25 per item.
First solder: £35 including cleaning/polishing
Additional solders on same item: £15
For example: The cost to repair a gold chain broken in two places would be £50, including cleaning and polishing.
Laser welding:
Specialist laser welding for complex repairs and items which are not suitable for standard soldering (for example silver items set with heat-sensitive stones).
The cost includes cleaning and polishing of the item (usually £25). We are unable to weld items without cleaning and polishing afterwards, as the solder torch burns the metal. Rhodium plating is not included, but this is available for an additional £25 per item.
First weld: £90 including cleaning/polishing
Additional welds on same item: Ask for estimate
Timescales:
Our average timescale is 3 - 4 weeks. Timescales may be extended during busy periods, or for complex jobs.
We have limited availability for our express service which incurs a 30% surcharge. Express timescales will vary depending on our current workload and the complexity of the job. Average express timescales for standard soldering/welding is 3 - 4 working days.
Our in-house workshop offers replacement trigger catches, bolt rings, jump rings and end-tags for chains and bracelets. We can supply these in silver, gold and platinum.

Our in-house workshop offers a professional jewellery reclawing service, with prices starting from £50. You'll find example prices below, but please visit us to receive a quote for your specific item.
Claw replacement:
Replacement of standard claws/prongs on all ring types, including materials.
Cost: £50 per claw, including cleaning/polishing
If the item requires rhodium plating, there is an additional charge of £25.
Example costs:
The cost to replace four claws on a yellow gold engagement ring would be £200, including cleaning and polishing of the entire ring (usually £25).
To cost to replace ten claws on a white gold cluster ring would be £525. This is £500 for ten claws plus £25 for rhodium plating.
Please note:
We will not carry out a partial reclaw of a setting unless the ring is fairly new and the remaining claws are in perfect condition. For example if you have caught a claw on your new engagement ring, we can likely repair it for £50 plus rhodium plating if required. However if the setting is showing signs of wear, we will only accept the job if you agree to a full reclaw. This is because we can't guarantee the security of your stone unless all the claws holding it are replaced at the same time.
Often when a setting is worn, the gallery rails will also need attention. We will inspect your setting and provide a quote if this is needed.
Timescale:
Our average timescale is 3 - 4 weeks. Timescales may be extended during busy periods, or for complex jobs.
We have limited availability for our express service which incurs a 30% surcharge. The express timescale will depend on our current workload and complexity of the job, but is usually 3 - 4 working days for simple reclawing work.

Our in-house workshop offers replacement of lost or broken diamonds/gemstones. This includes resetting stones which have fallen out of your jewellery or setting your existing stones into a new jewellery mount.
We also supply replacement diamonds and gemstones at competitive prices. This includes a colour-matching service where required, to ensure the new stone matches others in the setting. We specialise in sourcing antique and unusual stones. The cost of replacement stones will vary depending on the specification required. Re-polishing of existing gemstones is also available.
Cost:
The cost will vary depending on the condition of the mount and the type, size and number of stones to be set into it. Please contact us for a quote. We will need to examine the mount and stones in person to give an accurate quote and ensure they are suitable for setting.
As a general guide, setting a single 0.50ct diamond into a brand-new ring mount would cost around £100.
Timescales:
Our average timescale for stone setting is 3 -4 weeks. Timescales may be extended during busy periods, or for complex jobs.
We have limited availability for our express service which incurs a 30% surcharge. Express timescales will vary depending on our current workload, complexity of the job and availability of replacement stones. Average express timescales to reset existing stones is 3 - 4 working days.
The timescales quoted are intended as an approximate guide based on our average turnaround and are not guaranteed. Your job could take longer to complete. Stone sourcing can increase the timescale significantly, especially if a colour-match is required. Rare or antique stones can take several weeks or months to source, occasionally needing to be imported from overseas or cut to order.
If you require completion by a specific date, this must be agreed by us at the time of booking, so we can check if this will be possible. Additional charge may apply if express services are required in order to meet this date.
Risk of stone failure:
Resetting gemstones is not without risk. While we will visually inspect each stone to determine whether it is suitable for reuse, we cannot guarantee the integrity of gemstones we have not supplied. Gemstones can often have hidden faults and weaknesses not visible during the initial inspection, especially if they are being reused from existing jewellery. When subjected to the heat and pressure of the setting process, these hidden faults can cause a stone to crack, chip or shatter (even diamonds). This is due to the inherently fragile nature of gemstones and is outside of our control.
Stone failure is extremely rare - we have only experienced this a handful of times in several decades of jewellery design. But unfortunately it can happen, even with brand-new stones. Gemstones supplied by us are fully guaranteed and will be replaced without charge if they fail, but customer-supplied gemstones are used at your own risk. If your stone does fail during the resetting process, we will be happy to source a suitable replacement for you at trade price with no additional charges added. However, we would not cover the cost of the stone itself.
Posting items:
Most gemstone dealers are based in London. We will avoid sending your item to a third party wherever possible, but sometimes this is unavoidable (for example if we need to colour-match a gemstone and can't source one locally). In this case, your item will need to be posted to the dealer. Postage is charged at £10 each way for insured Royal Mail Special Delivery.
Please bear in mind that while your jewellery will be insured for it's replacement value while in transit, there is always a risk of loss or damage when sending anything by Royal Mail, and this is outside of our control. If your jewellery holds special sentimental value or is an irreplaceable design, you should consider whether you are happy to accept this risk before agreeing for us to post it away.
We can arrange pearl and bead restringing, including replacement catches and the replacement of missing pearls.
This is a third-party service arranged via a trade-only restringing specialist. It is not carried out in-house. As this involves us sending the item by post, postage charges will apply. Please see below for details.
Please note: If your existing bracelet or necklace has stretched, restringing will cause it to shorten as the new string will be tighter. All restringing is done using natural silk unless stated otherwise. Elastic bracelets can also be restrung at the same cost.
Cost:
Return P&P: From £10 to £20 (see below)
Bracelet restringing up to 8" (unknotted): £26 plus P&P
Bracelet restringing up to 8" (knotted): £30 plus P&P
Necklace restringing up to 20" (unknotted): £36 plus P&P
Necklace restringing up to 20" (knotted): £48 plus P&P
Additional inches (unknotted): Add £2 per inch
Additional inches (knotted): Add £3 per inch
Double row necklaces: Add 'per inch' charge for second row
Fancy patterns: Ask for estimate
Cleaning: £15 per item
Return P&P:
If your item is not valuable and you are happy for this to be sent by standard Royal Mail Signed for, the P&P would be £5 each way (£10 return). This would not be insured in the event of loss or damage in transit.
All other items will be sent by fully insured Royal Mail Special Delivery, which is charged at £10 each way (£20 return).
Postage is only charged once per booking, regardless of the number of items you ask us to send.
Timescale:
As this is a third-party service, the timescale is determined by the supplier rather than ourselves. The average timescale is 3 - 4 weeks. Timescales may be extended during busy periods, or for complex jobs.
A faster timescale may be possible for an additional charge. Please contact us for details.
Royal Mail:
Please bear in mind that while your jewellery will be insured for it's replacement value while in transit, there is always a risk of loss or damage when sending anything by Royal Mail, and this is outside of our control.
If your jewellery holds special sentimental value or is an irreplaceable design, you should consider whether you are happy to accept this risk before asking us to post it away.
WATCH SERVICES
While we are happy to offer general advice and pricing via telephone, email or messaging services, we will need to inspect your item before it can be booked in for any of our workshop services. Please visit us during our normal opening hours (currently 10am to 5pm Tuesday to Saturday).
If you'd like to pre-book a date for same-day workshop services, please get in touch with your preferred date and a description of the work required (including photos of your item if possible):

Estimates for all in-house services are provided free of charge and without obligation*. While we welcome enquiries by email and social media, we will need to inspect the watch in person before an accurate estimate can be given.
This may be extended during unusually busy periods or if we need to source parts to calculate the estimate.
Please Note - Third-Party Services:
Many watch manufacturers refuse to provide parts to independent repairers and insist that watches are sent to their own 'approved' service centres for repairs and servicing. You can arrange this yourself by contacting the manufacturer and asking for the details of their UK service centre for out-of-warranty repairs. Arranging this direct will be the most cost effective option for you. We are unable to provide contact details of these service centres.
If you don't want the hassle of arranging this yourself, we have accounts with all UK service centres and are happy to deal with them on your behalf. This will incur charges to cover our time, return postage costs, and possibly estimate charges by the service centre.
By booking in your watch and asking us to deal with the service centre on your behalf, you are accepting the following terms:
We charge a £20 admin fee for arranging the estimate on your behalf, even if you decide not to proceed with the work. If you want to avoid this charge, you can arrange an estimate direct with the manufacturer's service centre.
Return postage charges of at least £20 will apply, even if you decide not to proceed with the estimate. As all items are sent by insured Royal Mail Special Delivery, this will be at least £10 each way. If you arrange the estimate yourself, the service centre may offer you free return postage, however this does not apply to trade accounts and we pass along return postage charges in full. In most cases, this will be £20. However if your watch is particularly valuable, additional insurance charges may apply. The service centre may also apply a handling/packaging charge in addition to the return postage.
The manufacturer's service centre will inspect your watch and provide an estimate for the work. Watch repair estimates are very time-consuming, as they involve dismantling the movement to diagnose the fault. Due to this, some service centres charge a fee for providing the estimate. This is usually between £15 and £30, and is payable even if you decide not to proceed with the estimate. These charges are outside of our control, and would have been payable if you had arranged the estimate direct. By asking us to send watch away on your behalf, you agree to reimburse us for any such charges in full.
Service centres are notoriously slow, with estimates often taking up to six weeks and the repair/service itself taking several months. Unfortunately this is outside of our control, and there is no way for us to speed this up.
Please bear in mind that while your watch will be insured for it's replacement value while in transit, there is always a risk of loss or damage when sending anything by Royal Mail, and this is outside of our control. If your watch holds special sentimental value or is an irreplaceable model, you should consider whether you are happy to accept this risk before asking us to post it away on your behalf.
If the watch was originally bought from us, we will waive our admin charge for out-of-warranty repairs. Postage charges will still apply, along with any charges by the service centre for providing the estimate. Please provide your receipt or stamped guarantee card as proof of purchase.
We have a reputation for providing excellent service at a reasonable price, which means our workshop is always extremely busy. We receive dozens of new bookings each week.
Example timescales for our most common services are shown in the sections below.
As we are confident in the quality of our workshop services, parts and workmanship are guaranteed for 12 months, including batteries and servicing. Please note: if the item is taken to another repairer during this period, this will void the guarantee. Occasionally we'll agree to do a non-guaranteed repair, if we're not confident it will last. If you agree to proceed on this basis, no guarantee applies.
The guarantee does not cover faults caused by accidental damage, mistreatment or failure to care for the item appropriately once it has been returned to you. Watches are fragile by nature, and repairing an item does not make invincible to future damage. If a repair fails due to an issue with workmanship or materials, it will be covered under our guarantee. Otherwise, further repairs will be chargeable. For example if we replace a cracked glass and then you smash the new one a week later, you'll be charged for another repair (sorry!). We recommend you have insurance in place to cover accidental damage, loss and theft. Please ask for details of our recommended insurer, TH March.
The guarantee only includes parts we have replaced as part of the original repair or service. It does not provide a warranty on the entire watch. It is impossible to predict imminent failure of many watch parts. Rather than showing gradual signs of decline, they will work perfectly one moment and spontaneously fail the next. This could be six days, six months, or six years after we have worked on your watch, and is unfortunately outside of our control. If the watch stops working within 12 months, we will inspect it to determine the cause. If the new part has developed a fault, it will be replaced without charge. If a different part is found to be faulty, the repair will be chargeable. But don't worry, we'll always be honest! And we can usually do the repair at a lower cost than usual.

We can service all brands of watch, including luxury models from brands such as Rolex, Omega and Patek Philippe.
Standard in-house service prices:
Quartz movement: from £120
Mechanical movement: from £140
Basic automatic movement: from £160
Luxury brands: from £400
These prices assume no parts are required.
Our average timescale is 4 - 6 weeks. This is intended as a guide only, and is not guaranteed. This may be extended during unusually busy periods, or if parts are difficult to source.
If parts are required , we will provide a quote for the work. Depending on the parts required, we can source genuine branded parts from the manufacturer, or fit a non-branded 'generic' equivalent. This is usually a much cheaper and faster option. Please let us know at the outset if you have a preference.
We do not recommend in-house servicing if your watch is currently under warranty, as it will invalidate your guarantee. Please see the notes below regarding 'approved' third-party service centres.
Guarantee:
Service workmanship and replacement parts are guaranteed for 12 months. This means that if your watch develops a fault within 12 months of completion, and this caused by an issue with our workmanship or a part we have supplied during the service, we will repair it without charge.
This guarantee does not extend to failure of original parts or issues unrelated to the work we have carried out. Watch movements are very complex, and contain many intricate parts. During a full service, all parts will be cleaned and inspected, and we will notify you if any require immediate replacement. However, we can neither predict nor guarantee the lifespan of original parts. Parts can spontaneously fail, even if they appeared in good condition during the service. If your watch develops a fault related to one of these original parts, this would not covered by the service guarantee. We can only guarantee parts we have supplied and fitted during the service itself.

You can arrange this yourself by contacting the manufacturer and asking for the details of their UK service centre for out-of-warranty repairs.

Watch batteries can often be replaced same-day if the watch is brought in before midday. For watches brought in after this, collection will usually be next working day. As our workshop is very busy, we are unable to offer a 'while you wait' service.
Timescales may be extended during busy periods, or if the battery required is temporarily out of stock.
Watch batteries are guaranteed for 12 months. If your battery fails prematurely, please bring your receipt and we will install a new battery free of charge.
Standard battery prices:
Lever-back case: £12
Screw-back case: £20
Two-part case: £40
Prices include regreasing of the seals. Additional charges will apply for complex battery replacement, for example those involving glass removal.
Specialist batteries:
Specialist batteries start at £30. Extended timescales will apply for non-stock batteries, as they need to be ordered from our supplier.
Waterproofing & pressure testing:
During your battery replacement, we will inspect and re-grease the rubber seals of the watch to ensure they are in good condition before reassembling the case. This can help maintain the water-resistance of your watch, but does not guarantee it.
We always recommend that the term 'waterproof' should be taken with a pinch of salt. In general, waterproof watches are safe to be worn in the rain or while washing hands. We don't recommend wearing them in a hot shower or while swimming, regardless of the manufacturer's claims. The only way to guarantee waterproofing is to have the watch regularly pressure tested using specialist equipment. This is especially important for dive watches.
We do not offer pressure testing as part of our standard battery replacement service, but can arrange it for an extra charge. Please contact us for current prices and timescales.
Please note: if you ask us to replace the battery in your waterproof watch without opting for pressure testing, the waterproofing cannot be guaranteed and we accept no liability for water damage sustained as a result.
Replacement straps start at £20 including fitting. We can also supply replacement bracelets.
If the watch is brought in before midday, we can often fit your new strap the same day. For watches brought in after this, collection will usually be next working day. Timescales may be extended during busy periods, or if the strap you require is not one we keep in stock.
If you require a genuine branded strap, we will need to source this direct from the manufacturer and they can be very slow - often taking weeks or months to fulfil the order. Sometimes you can find a strap available to purchase online from places such as eBay or Amazon, faster and cheaper than we can obtain one direct from the manufacturer. If you manage to find a suitable strap, we are happy to fit it for £10.
Please Note - Approved Third-Party Service Centres:
Many watch manufacturers refuse to provide parts to independent repairers and insist that watches are sent to their own 'approved' service centres for repairs and servicing. You can arrange this yourself by contacting the manufacturer and asking for the details of their UK service centre for out-of-warranty repairs. We have accounts with all UK service centres and are happy to deal with the service centre on your behalf. If you would like us to do this, the following terms will apply:
A non-refundable charge of £25 is payable in advance to cover the cost of insured return postage and handling. This will be deducted from your final bill. The service centre will inspect your watch and provide an estimate for the work. While some service centres offer inspections free of charge, most charge a diagnostic fee of between £15 and £30. This is payable even if you choose not to proceed, and will be invoiced to us directly by the service centre. In many cases we will inform you of the charge at the time of booking and it will be payable in advance, in addition to £25 noted above. In other cases, you agree to reimburse us for any such charges in full, even if you do not intend to proceed with the work or request for the watch to be disposed of. Third-party charges and timescales are outside of our control. Service centres are notoriously slow, with estimates often taking up to six weeks and the repair/service itself taking in excess of twelve weeks.
By booking in your watch and asking us to deal with the service centre on your behalf, you are accepting these terms.
Standard watch bracelet adjustments are charged at £12 (adding or removing links). This is offered free of charge when buying a new watch from us.
Watches brought in before midday can usually be altered same-day. If brought in after midday, collection is usually the next working day.
As our workshop is very busy, we cannot offer a 'while you wait' service. Timescales may be extended during busy periods. Priority will always be given to watches purchased from us, especially during the festive period.
Please note: solid gold or silver watches with 'jewellery-style' bracelets often require alteration by our goldsmith, as they cannot be adjusted like a standard watch bracelet. Please ask for a quote.
We can supply and fit replacement links, snaps and buckles, with prices starting from £20.
We can source genuine branded parts from the manufacturer, or fit a non-branded 'generic' equivalent. This is usually a much cheaper and faster option. The price quoted above is for generic parts.
The exact price and timescale will depend on your specific model of watch.
Our average turnaround is approximately 4 - 6 weeks, assuming there are no delays in obtaining the replacement parts. Timescales may be extended during busy periods. If we have the required size of snap or buckle in stock, this will speed things up considerably.

We can replace your missing, cracked or chipped watch glass, with prices starting from £60.
We can source genuine branded glass from the manufacturer, or have an unbranded watch glass manufactured to the required specification. This would be the same quality of glass used by the manufacturer (mineral glass, sapphire glass etc) but is usually a much cheaper option. The price quoted above is for unbranded glass.
The exact price and timescale will depend on your specific model of watch.

We can replace your missing or damaged button and stem, with prices starting from £60. If you only require either the button or the stem (rather than both), the price would be £30. Unfortunately it's not usually possible for us to tell whether one or both is required until the watch is dismantled to carry out the replacement. For this reason, bookings are accepted on the assumption that both parts are required.
We can source genuine branded parts from the manufacturer, or fit a non-branded 'generic' equivalent. This is usually a much cheaper and faster option. The price quoted above is for a generic button and stem.
